An IP telephone system essentially is a telephone system that allows lots of handsets across lots of different locations in the same office or across the globe.
IP stands for ‘Internet Protocol’ which means that the system uses the same technology that is used for computers to access the internet.
Each phone in the system is given a specific IP address, which is like your address for your home, a unique number that means that other phones can find your phone in the network and so make your phone ring.
The system is connected by building a internal network in your office, which can also handle a wired internet connection as the cabling is the same. You then connect IP compatible telephones to receive the calls.
IP telephone systems are increasingly common as they allow lots of different phones to be in one location, but accessible from only one phone number.
For example, a school may only have one phone number, but will need extensions for all the senior members of staff as well as additional handsets in other areas such as the canteen and the main office.
The systems below are essentially a mini phone exchange in your office that organise all your calls and the size of the unit that you need depends on the number of calls you need to make and the number of phones you need to connect.
