Fibre Optic Broadband for Business

In today’s digital world, fast, secure and reliable Internet is vital for running a successful business. An online presence is essential to building a trustworthy and credible brand. Whether your priority is video conferencing or hosting a website, your internet connection must be one that you can trust. This is why we recommend a reliable Fibre Optic Broadband for business.

Security online helps present your credibility to customers but also protects your business. When using traditional copper wire cables, there is more risk for information thieves to get access to data, as well as the risk of damage due to weather conditions, leading to connection loss.

With Fibre Optics, your business security is increased due to the minimum opportunities to tamper with cables. Additionally, as glass and plastic do not conduct electricity, Fibre Optic is not subject to electromagnetic interference. This means that signal losses are minimised. While all risks of data theft and connection issues are not non-existent with Fibre, having Fibre Optic Broadband for business offers more protection and a secure internet connection for your company.

What is Fibre Optic Broadband?

Optical Fibre is the technology associated with the transmission of information using light pulses along a glass or plastic strand, known as Fibre.

The number of fibres in the cable can vary from just a few up to several hundred. A layer called “cladding” is also made of glass and surrounds the fibre core. The next layer is known as a “buffer tube” which protects the cladding. The final protective layer is a “jacket layer” for the individual strand.

Copper wire cables have been the traditional choice for telecommunication, networking and cable connections for many years. However, recently Fibre Optics has become a popular alternative. Fibre is much faster than ADSL (Asymmetric Digital Subscriber Line. Information carried via traditional copper wire cables. Uses the same line that provides your landline telephone service) and uses underground cables made of plastic or glass.

The majority of long-distance telecommunication lines are now made of Fibre Optic cables. Due to its higher bandwidth and faster speeds, Fibre Optic can carry more information than traditional copper wire, making it a great choice for a business broadband package!

How does Fibre Optic Broadband work?

Fibre Optics transmit data in the form of light particles as they pulse through the cable at a speed of around 30% slower than the speed of light. The glass fibre core and the cladding layer bend the incoming light at different angles. As light signals are sent through the Fibre Optic Cable, they reflect off the core and cladding in a series of zig-zag bounces.

There are 2 types of Fibre Optic Cables; Multi-Mode Fibre and Single-Mode Fibre. Multi-Mode means that the fibre can propagate multi types of light modes at a time. Contrastingly, Single-Mode has only one mode of propagation, in the form of a single wavelength of light in the fibre core.

As Multi-Mode Cables have a larger diameter to allow multiple pulses of light signals to reflect, more data can be transmitted. However, this opens up the possibility for signal loss or interference as the data can overlap. Single Mode Cables are used for longer distances than Multi-Mode due to the smaller diameter of the glass fibre. The single light beam follows a direct route and allows the signal to travel a longer distance – 40km or more – without any interference.

What is Fibre to the Cabinet (FTTC) business broadband?

Fibre to the Cabinet is the process of transmission via Fibre Cables from the exchange to the cabinet in the street. The final stretch of the journey from the cabinet to the premises is conventional copper wire. FTTC provides up to 80Mbps download and up to 20Mbps upload.

This is an ideal solution for small to medium sized businesses, with a small number of staff who aren’t reliant on their internet 24 hours a day. If this sounds like your business, find out more about our FTTC services here.

What is Fibre to the Premises (FTTP) business broadband?

Fibre to the Premises is quite similar to FTTC. However, instead of the fibre cables ending at the cabinet, they begin at the exchange and continue all the way to the premises. This service is 100% Fibre Optics and offers download speeds of up to 330Mbps and upload of up to 30Mbps.

We recommend this solution for enterprise level businesses or smaller companies with high internet dependency. When your employees rely on a fast connection, you don’t want your broadband letting you down. Find out more about how we can help.

Fibre Optic Broadband for Business

Why should you invest in a Fibre Leased Line?

1. Ideal for voice, data and Internet traffic

There’s nothing worse than one user’s connection lagging as another is prioritised. It’s recommended to have Fibre Optic Broadband for business via a leased line to keep an uncontended, stable and fast connection when using VoIP communications within your business. This provides a strong connection so that your data is transmitted quickly without any quality drop.

2. Unlimited downloads

No broadband limits mean that you and your team can download without restrictions around the clock!

3. Uncontended symmetrical (upload and download) speeds

With a Fibre Optic Leased Line, both download and upload have the same speeds! This brilliant feature allows you to upload data at super-fast speeds, which is an essential time-saving tool.

4. Ideal for Cloud Storage and VOIP

The speed and bandwidth of Fibre Broadband mean faster access to your data and applications in the cloud. That familiar frustration of call crackling will be non-existent with fibre.

5. Superior speed designed for high definition video conferencing

Video conferencing is a more important tool for businesses than ever in 2020. Fibre Optic broadband for business offers a quicker and more reliable internet connection than traditional ADSL. Your video conference calls will be high quality and lag-free with a Fibre Optic broadband package.

6. Quality of Service (QoS)

QoS allows an ISP (Internet Service Provider) to measure network transmission rates, error rates and other characteristics in order to improve and, to some extent, guarantee a certain level of quality in advance.

7. Dedicated bandwidth to ensure a consistent level of high-speed connectivity

The bandwidth availability of fibre is significantly higher than cable internet bandwidth, and most importantly, speed does not decrease as high depends are put on the network. Low bandwidth availability can lead to downfalls such as slow speeds and pixelated video quality.

If your current Internet connection does not support your business demands for HD videos, telephone services via SIP trunking or Cloud Applications, you are likely to see huge benefits from upgrading to a business Fibre Optic broadband package and we can offer you the solution!

8. Scalable to suit your business needs

Not only is Fibre Optic Broadband for business safe and secure, but it will also future proof your company! Unlike a traditional PBX phone line, you will not need to change your system as your business grows. You have the option to connect many devices without affecting the connection quality.

How can Fibre Leased Lines help your business?

Fibre Leased Lines are a great business investment due the reliability and security provided to your business. If your team relies heavily on VoIP communication, software as a service and cloud applications, a Fibre Leased Line is guaranteed to improve the productivity and task completion time within your business.
